[Class 17 (ii)] An intermediary member 3 which is located above and a portion of which is integrally vulcanized to a sponge rubber sole 1. forms the indirect means of attachment of the upper 6 to the sole. A facing 2 of dense rubber may be applied to the underface of the sole 1. The member 3 may be flanged, as shown, with an upstanding portion 5, to which the upper is secured by sewing or lacing extending either inside the upper or outside, in which latter case the portion. 5 may be concealed or the upper edge may abut the edge of the upper. The portion 5 may be part of an insole member vulcanized to the sole 1 or may be otherwise attached to it.
